Weddings 2011: Trending Wedding Shoes, Jen and Kim for Coloriffics

If you are a shoe fashionista, as I am, then you will have to check out Jen and Kim Shoes for Coloriffics.  Jen and Kim 's collection wants to dazzle with a bit of young Hollywood to their special occasion customers.

Jen and Kim are two childhood friends with a passion for shoes and have paired with Coloriffics to create alternative wedding shoes.  I'm all about alternative,  regular wedding shoes are too...ugghhh......stiff, ugly and hurt like hell.  If they are comfy, they look like your grandma's shoes.  Finally, an alternative!!

Jen & Kim use  leather linings and suede insoles for comfort.  Regular wedding shoes do not.  That smacks of comfort to me.   Their shoes also have non slip soles and heel grips so one does not have to worry about falling and having the video shown to the world on YouTube.

I am in love with these shoes called Luna in rose. Love the two tone on this shoe and the pleating is uber sexy.  They have a 3/4" platform so you can wear a high heel without all the discomfort.  Plus, I get to be 3/4 of an inch taller and I will take it! I can totally see wearing this shoe again and again, not just a one shot shoe.

 Luna in blue.
 Luna in Ivory
I'm also in love with this shoe, Sweetie. OK, Sweetie is the name of the shoe!   I don't know which color I like best, so I'd have to have BOTH of them!  I love the sexy skinny wedge heel and the padded insoles.  I can also see these shoes playing a big part of my shoe wardrobe.

Glamour-ama shoes for the bride! Check out the bling on this silk shantung platform.  This shoe is called PASSION!!

Allure is the name of this peep toed baby.  This reminds me of the shoes worn in the 1940's by Hollywood temptresses.  I think the sweet and sexy look of the mary jane strap is hot!

Update! 2009 Wedding Trends are Rocking!

The trends in weddings are changing just like the times are changing for all of us.
We are seeing smaller weddings, nontraditional weddings and destination weddings as a response to the economy.

  • Colors: From the Wedding Report, the brides in the next 18 months are choosing cool colors over warm colors for their weddings. Blue dominates over any other color, we are seeing a lot of brides leaning toward Tiffany blue . The next hot cool color is the purple family followed by greens.

  • Cost: The average cost of a wedding has dipped 12% to $19,212. Demand is lower for limos, with many couples choosing to rent a luxury car for the day instead of a limousine. Demand is also down for videographers, with many people choosing to have a professional photographer take their wedding pictures and have their family or friends video the wedding.

  • Eco Friendly: Many weddings are "going green" with eco friendly invitations, organic foods and eco friendly favors.

  • DIY weddings: Many brides are doing it themselves. She is tackling jobs herself instead of paying to have it done in order to save money. It can range from printing her own wedding invitations, to making her own centerpieces and anything in between.

  • Destination weddings: A lot of couples are foregoing traditional weddings and having destination weddings. The trend to destination weddings is because many couples have blended families, don't want the hassle or just want a quiet wedding in an exotic destination. Read more about destination weddings here.
  • Fashion Trends: Ready to wear influences what is happening in weddings and the trends trickle down. Here's what is hot in ready to wear that you can expect to see in weddings soon.
  • More tiaras, yes, tiaras for everyone in your wedding party.
  • Scarves worn with the dresses. Scarves are everywhere, even in the summer.
  • Textured footwear: Animal print shoes or animal embossed shoes for the bridesmaids instead of satin dyed to match shoes.

Wedding Trends

We love wedding trends because
its a predictor of things to come
in weddings.

These are the trends we are seeing firsthand:

COLOR!

Coral is hot, with accents of green, golds and turquoise
blue.

Lime green with hot pink accents.

Green, green and more green with more vivid
shades and less of the sage green color. We are
seeing green paired up with chocolate brown,
sky blues and soft yellow tones.

Tiffany blue is still popular with mocha accents.

Ivory and champagne with gold tones for accents
in wedding dresses. Color accents to wedding
dresses, sometimes bold and vivid, sometimes
very subtle.

DRESS STYLES:

Sleeker wedding dresses, more column type
gowns with movement in the skirt.

Dropped waists.

Hip wrapped waists.

Empire waistlines with baby doll sleeves.

DESTINATION WEDDINGS:

We are seeing a drop in the number of traditional
weddings in their home areas and more trips
to a destination.

Beach and resort weddings.

Mountain resort weddings.

Grooms men wearing shirts that match the
bridesmaid colors and light colored pants instead
of tuxes.

Bridesmaids wearing short or tea length dresses in
tropical colors.

SIZE OF WEDDINGS:

Smaller venues, smaller guest lists.

Three or four bridesmaids versus the nine or
ten bridesmaids that were so popular a
few years ago.

WEDDING CAKES:

Cakes as art. Unique, colorful wedding cakes
that express the couple and are a
centerpiece of the reception.

Grooms cakes that are personalized
towards his interests and made in
his favorite flavor.

No cake top or a very unique cake top
including having them custom made.
No bells and doves for todays couples!

ECO WEDDINGS:

Couples are working hard to make sure their
wedding is eco friendly and doesn't leave a carbon
footprint on the environment.

Eco friendly favors and centerpieces.

Donations to wildlife foundations and planting
trees in the names of guests in lieu of favors.

Serving a more earth friendly meal, in some cases
totally vegan menu.

PERSONALIZING THE WEDDING:

Brides and grooms putting their own stamp of
creativity on the wedding.

Designing their own wedding invitations.

Using personal wedding web sites.
Wedding Tracker
even has an online RSVP page to keep track of
your RSVPS.

More Wedding Trends for 2008 & 2009 Reception Trends

Trends come and go in bridal. Here's some of the latest wedding
trends we've compiled from
interviewing our savy brides.

Edible fruit centerpieces: Very organic, very fresh,
very expensive, not for the budget bride. There
are labor intensive and must be done the day
of the wedding, so its a bit difficult for the
do it yourselfer. They literally make my
mouth water and are a feast for the eyes.
Best part, they match most decors. Downside:
they'll get eaten and you won't have centerpieces
for the entire reception.

Fruits and flowers in bouquets and centerpieces
.

Fruits are put in the bases of clear vases or used in
the actual floral arrangement.

Tall, thin unique wedding cakes done in marzipan
without all the fluff and done in bright, unique colors.

The first dance
A lot of couples are borrowing from Dancing With
The Stars and learning ballroom dance for their first
dance at the reception.
Others are coreographing their first dance to mimic a
music video or their favorite song to surprise their guests.
One you've seen on YouTube is the wedding party and family
doing
Michael Jackson's Thriller dance at the reception.
I loved it! What a fun family!

The green reception

Many aware couples are incorporating eco
friendly aspects into their wedding receptions
such as wildflower favors or donating to
the Sierra club in lieu of a favor.

Planting these wildflower favor hearts will actually
grow wildflowers!

Weddingzilla's Top Wedding Trends

Weddingzilla has compiled our top
10 wedding trends for 2008.

Top Wedding Trend # 1. Going Green,
which is the perfect topic for Earth Day. Brides are
using earth friendly favors or donating to earth
friendly charities in lieu of favors. They are
holding outdoor wedding ceremonies and taking
steps to combat their carbon footprints. Today's bride
is using lots of fresh plants and flowers for
table decorations and asking the guests to take
them home. Couples are spending a lot of time
researching earth friendly weddings and incorporating
them into the wedding. Here's another great green favor.

Top Wedding Trend #2: Putting your
own stamp on the wedding.
Couples are less about having mom's wedding, more
about having it express who they are as a couple.
This can be anything from using a citrus color to accent a
Caribbean theme to having your best male friend serve as
man of honor.

Top Wedding Trend # 3: Joint bachelorette
and bachelor party.
Couples are nixing the traditional
drunk fest in favor of having a party to celebrate
the wedding together. It might be a pub crawl as
a group or it might be a group weekend at a mountain
cabin with cookouts, scavenger hunts and hiking.
Its less about the strip club and more about
the wedding party getting acquainted and having fun.

Top Wedding Trend #4: Return of
the wedding cake.
The wedding cake is back as the centerpiece of the
reception. Today's wedding cakes are more artsy and
unique. No more white bridges between cakes with dolls
dressed as the wedding party. These cakes are works of
art and are the latest wedding status symbol. Did you see
Ivana Trump's kabillion dollar cake? WOW! While the
cupcake tree is still popular, its being used more for the
rehearsal dinner or wedding showers.

Top Wedding Trend #5: The return of elegance.
Brides are choosing to return to elegant touches,
such as sprays of orchids on the reception tables,
to having monogrammed fabric napkins the guests
take home as gifts.

Top Wedding Trend # 6: Celebrating your family
heritage.
Couples are embracing their family heritage
using a theme that defines their heritage. The newest trend
Weddingzilla has seen lately is an Irish Claddaugh theme in
invitations and favors. Couples are doing an emerald green
theme, using shamrocks on the reception tables, serving
Irish food and even having guests learn Irish dances at
the reception. One is even setting up a replica of an Irish
pub at her reception complete with a singing tenor bartender.

Top Wedding Trend # 7: Two wedding dresses.
Some brides are choosing a traditional formal wedding dress
for the ceremony, then changing into a shorter formal cocktail
dress or tea length wedding dress for the reception. A friend of
mine did this for her wedding. She wanted to marry in a formal
princess style ball gown but wanted to dance all night long at her
reception. Her dream dress wasn't a dancing dress. She wore
her dream gown for the ceremony and pictures. She changed into
a tea length dress for cocktails and the reception. She danced
like a star. It was awesome!

Top Wedding Trend # 8: Using color in your wedding.
For a long time, weddings have tended to more neutral colors.
Weddingzilla did a lot of weddings that were all champagne, cream
or ivory with ivory flowers. Elegant, sure, but dull in pictures.
The latest trend is to use a color that pops in wedding pictures and
accenting with colorful bouquets of mixed flowers.

Top Wedding Trend # 9 : Writing your own vows.
Weddingzilla knows that this has been a trend for
a long time, but it continues to dominate on our list.
Couples are saying what they feel, not reciting vows written
for someone else years ago. What woman wants to say
she will obey? Not moi. Writing your own vows gives
you a time to reflect on the relationship and the
marriage
and not focus on the party planning.

Top Wedding Trend # 10: Wedding party t shirts.
Tee shirts for all the members of the wedding party are
practically a requirement for the pre wedding parties and
wedding rehearsal. Its a fun gift for the wedding attendants.

Wedding Trends That Are SOOOO Overdone

Some wedding trends are beat to death and
deserve to die a natural death. Every trend
has a season, and its time for some of these
trends to be gone!

Every shade of brown on brown dresses
accented with gold. Brown whether you
call it cocoa, mocha or palamino with gold
trim is getting redundant. The wedding pictures
look drab. If you are going to do brown, accent
it with pink or tiffany blue to make the color
pop!

Cupcake trees instead of wedding cakes.
It was cute when it started, it was unique.
But a cupcake is a cupcake and a wedding
cake is the centerpiece of your reception.

Matchy matchy...a word coined by the
fashion mavens that makes me gag.
It means matching everything exactly.
Rouched skirt wedding dresses to
rouched skirt bridesmaid dresses.
There is a difference between coordination
and flow and matching exactly. Weddings
should flow.

Clone wedding dresses. A clone dress is a
copy of an original. Way too many bridal dress
companies are copying designs instead of coming up
with an original design. I see thousands of dresses a year
and they look alike to me. I WISH the dress
companies would come out with an original idea.
You'd have more choices in more price ranges.
Forgawdssake, hire a designer!

Not wearing a veil or headpiece with a formal
wedding dress. We hear I'm not used to wearing
anything on my head. DUH...we don't wear
veils on a daily basis! The veil frames the face and
balances the dress. Wear the veil for the wedding and
pictures and take it off for the reception.
The proper way to wear a veil is to let it
flow down the back and pulled across the
shoulders.

Wedding Trends for 2008

Here is my list of hot wedding trends for 2008:

  • Eco friendly "green weddings" or incorporating elements of green into the festivities.
  • Wedding invitations on recycled papers or printing your own invites at home
  • Donating to an ecological cause (like donating to the National Arbor foundation) in lieu of a wedding favor
  • The bride and groom taking dance lessons so they can dance their first dance like the "stars".
  • Chocolate fountains at the reception
  • Romantic receptions with tiny glittering lights and candles
  • Outdoor wedding ceremonies
  • Incorporating elements of the bride and groom's personality into the wedding
  • Silly things like tambourines at the reception to get the bride and groom to kiss rather than clinking a glass with a spoon.
  • Unique wedding cakes and cup cakes trees
  • Colorful bouquets of flowers
Feel free to comment on the trends you see in your area!
